Oscars Etc...

Wow...been a while since I posted here! Been too busy! Anyway...

Since the Academy Awards are tomorrow, I thought I would post my thoughts.

Honestly, I could care less about the Oscars this year. And depending on how much homework I get done today and tomorrow, I may not even watch them! It seems that no one is really that excited about the Oscars this year, though I have different reasons than most. Why am I not interested? Because I don't really agree with any of the nominations, that's why! Below are my predictions about who will actually win, and then my comments on what I would pick to win if I gave out the little gold men.

Best Foreign Language Film:
(This will be the only time when I and the Academy are in any real agreement!)
Though it's just a guess, I am going to predict that Pan's Labyrinth will win. I just saw it a couple of days ago, and it was a great film! Definitely deserving!

Best Actor:
My prediction: Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland.
I actually have not seen any of the films nominated in this category! If I were to give it, I would give it to Hugh Jackman for The Fountain.

Best Actress:
My prediction: Helen Mirren for The Queen.
Again, haven't seen any of the nominees! (Not doing real well with that, am I?)
I would give it to Rachel Weiss for The Fountain.

Best Director:
If the Oscar doesn't go to Martin Scorsese I will be shocked. Of the nominees I personally think that either Alejandro González Iñárritu (for Babel) or Paul Greengrass (for United 93) are both more deserving than Scorsese, but Oscars aren't really handed out for what it truly the most deserving work, are they?
If I were to decide it would go to Darren Aronofsky for The Fountain (sensing a trend here?).

Best Picture:
It will probably go to Scorsese's The Departed, but I could be wrong about that. I did like The Departed, though not as much as the rest of the human population seemed toi. Of the nominees, I thought Babel was significantly better.
My personal favorite film of he year is (can you guess?): The Fountain.

Honorably mentions should also go to Superman Returns, Clerks 2, and The Prestige.

Well, that is all for now.
